Online Video Poker
| |
|
Video Poker machines originated in the 1970's, a new creation that blended the
strategy of poker with the ease and simplicity of traditional slot machines. As
better technology allowed faster connection speeds, a more secure and reliable
transaction medium, and advanced graphics capable of realistically simulating
the casino experience, online gaming proliferated throughout the 1990's. Today,
internet-based casinos are flourishing, and offer a full-suite of popular
games, including blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat, pai-gow, and of course,
video poker.

While the online version of poker might closely resemble the real thing, there
are many key differences between the two. The subtle art of bluffing has been
removed, for example, and there is no need for an online player to raise, call,
or fold. An unknown "pot" has also been replaced with a fixed payout schedule
that rewards players with predetermined amounts based on the poker hand
attained, as well as the amount of money wagered.
To begin, a player simply needs to indicate the appropriate amount of coins
that he/she wants to wager, and select "deal". Five cards will be dealt, and
the player will be immediately notified if the hand is a winner. After the
player carefully evaluates his cards, he has the opportunity to select which
cards are to be kept, and which are to be discarded. After new cards have been
dealt, the player will be paid according to the published payout schedule; the
higher the poker hand, the more he will receive.
While all video poker games require that cards be randomly generated and fairly
distributed, the payout schedules between different games can vary. For
example, many pay 8-for-1 for a full house, and 5-for-1 for a flush – but not
all. It pays to search for the highest payout schedules possible. Keep in mind,
though, that different games will have different payouts. Obviously, all things
being equal, a straight flush in a "Deuces Wild" game will return less than the
same hand in a game without wild cards. There are a variety of games available,
such as "Joker Poker", "Louisiana Double", and "Jacks or Better", each
requiring their own unique strategy. Regardless of the game, the goal remains
the same - a Royal Flush. Good Luck!
